Fort Washington Park (Ft Washington, MD)
Built to defend the river approach to Washington, DC, Fort Washington has stood as a silent sentry for over 200 years. Fort Washington, located near the community of Fort Washington, Maryland, was for many decades the only defensive fort protecting Washington D.C. Joining the National Park Service in 1946, the park continues to protect the Potomac River and the 341 acres are full of rolling hills and gorgeous waterfront views.
Tilghman Lake Park (La Plata, MD)
With 61 acres of nature to explore, Tilghman Lake Park is the largest park in the La Plata, MD town limits. The park features a one mile walking trail that connects to Laurel Springs Park for fishing and has a picnic pavilion. There is a large pier for fishing & lounging. and swans are often seen swimming around the lake which adds to the relaxing appeal of the park.
Hains Point Park (Washington DC)
Hains Point is a peninsula at the southern tip of East Potomac Park and offers beautiful views of the Potomac River, Anacostia River, and the Washington Channel which connects with the Tidal Basin north of the park and the Jefferson Memorial. The park offers both lovely land & water views, walking trails, and is a popular location to view the Cherry Blossom trees blooming in the Spring!
Gravelly Point Park (Arlington, VA)
A large, grassy knoll by the Potomac that sits directly north of the Reagan National Airport. Locals flock here to catch close-up views of airplanes taking off and landing while enjoying bike paths, picnic benches, walking trails, and top-notch views of the DC skyline.
Belle Haven Park (Alexandria, VA)
This riverside park offers beautiful views of the Potomac River. It is 5 miles North of the historic Mount Vernon Estate of George Washington and 10 minutes South of Alexandria and offers picturesque views of the Woodrow Wilson Bridge, the MGM Casino, and the National Harbor! The park also has shaded nature trails, a small boardwalk, and kayak/canoe rentals.
Marshall Hall Park (Marshall Hall, MD)
Marshall Hall Park is the site of the historic Marshall family mansion. It is now part of Piscataway Park operated by the National Park Service (NPS). Marshall Hall Park is located near the city of Bryans Road in Charles County, Maryland, next to the Potomac River, more or less across from Mount Vernon, Virginia which was the home of George Washington. The park is waterfront and offers a boat ramp, fishing pier, and large picnic area.
Fletcher’s Cove Park (Washington DC)
Nestled away from the bustling city life of Washington D.C. along the Potomac River, sits Fletchers Cove with plenty of opportunities to unwind and relax. With access to the Potomac River as well as the historic Chesapeake and Ohio Canal, Fletcher’s Boathouse has been a locally renowned paddling and unique fishing destination since the 1850s.
